Με φόντο τη λάμψη του Λος Άντζελες, η 37η τελετή των GLAAD Media Awards αναδεικνύει τους καλλιτέχνες που χρησιμοποίησαν τη φωνή τους για να σπάσουν τα στερεότυπα, με τη Lady Gaga και τις KATSEYE να ηγούνται των φετινών υποψηφιοτήτων.
Στην καρδιά της παγκόσμιας βιομηχανίας θεάματος, εκεί όπου η τέχνη συναντά τον κοινωνικό ακτιβισμό, τα βραβεία GLAAD Media Awards παραμένουν ο πιο ισχυρός θεσμός για την ορατότητα της ΛΟΑΤΚΙ+ κοινότητας. Από το 1990, όταν ξεκίνησαν ως μία σεμνή τελετή, έχουν εξελιχθεί στο πιο προβεβλημένο ετήσιο γεγονός του είδους του παγκοσμίως.
Οι ανακοινώσεις των υποψηφιοτήτων για την 37η διοργάνωση ήρθαν στις 7 Ιανουαρίου για να επιβεβαιώσουν πως το 2025 υπήρξε μία χρονιά – ορόσημο για την εκπροσώπηση, με 291 υποψηφίους σε 32 διαφορετικές κατηγορίες να διεκδικούν από ένα βραβείο.
Στην κατηγορία του Εξαιρετικού Μουσικού Καλλιτέχνη (Outstanding Music Artist), το όνομα της Lady Gaga δεσπόζει δικαιωματικά.
Η pop εικονοποιός, που έχει ταυτίσει την πορεία της με την υπεράσπιση των ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων, βλέπει το πρόσφατο άλμπουμ της «MAYHEM» να συνεχίζει τη θριαμβευτική του πορεία. Πέρα από την υποψηφιότητα στα GLAAD, το «MAYHEM» διεκδικεί φέτος και τα βραβεία Grammy για το Άλμπουμ της Χρονιάς και το Καλύτερο Pop Άλμπουμ.
Δίπλα της, στην ίδια κατηγορία, συναντάμε ιερά τέρατα της μουσικής όπως ο Elton John και η Brandi Carlile, οι οποίοι για τη συνεργασία τους στο «Who Believes in Angels?» έλαβαν επίσης το χρίσμα των Grammy.
Η λίστα των υποψηφίων στην κύρια μουσική κατηγορία συμπληρώνεται από ονόματα που αντικατοπτρίζουν την πολυφωνία της σύγχρονης σκηνής: Conan Gray, Durand Bernarr, Ethel Cain, G Flip, Reneé Rapp και Young Miko. Ιδιαίτερη μνεία αξίζει στους Ty Herndon και Maren Morris, δύο καλλιτέχνες που κατάφεραν να κερδίσουν την αναγνώριση στον συγκριτικά συντηρητικό κόσμο της country μουσικής, πριν προχωρήσουν στο δικό τους coming out, αποδεικνύοντας πως η αυθεντικότητα δεν γνωρίζει μουσικά σύνορα.
Στον αντίποδα, η κατηγορία του Εξαιρετικού Πρωτοεμφανιζόμενου Μουσικού Καλλιτέχνη (Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist) σφύζει από νέα ενέργεια.
Οι KATSEYE, το συγκρότημα που ήδη διεκδικεί το Grammy του Καλύτερου Νέου Καλλιτέχνη, βρίσκονται ανάμεσα στους φαβορί. Η πορεία τους στην Ασία και τον υπόλοιπο κόσμο έχει δημιουργήσει μία νέα δυναμική, την οποία η GLAAD έσπευσε να αναγνωρίσει.
Στην ίδια κατηγορία βρίσκουμε τις Wet Leg, που πριν τρία χρόνια είχαν συγκινήσει την Ακαδημία των Grammy, καθώς και τον Frankie Grande, τον μεγαλύτερο ετεροθαλή αδελφό της Ariana Grande, ο οποίος διαγράφει τη δική του αυτόνομη πορεία στο μουσικό στερέωμα.
Η κατηγορία συμπληρώνεται από τους Amaarae, Chris Housman, Destin Conrad, Eli, Guitarricadelafuente, Shygirl και Snow Wife, συνθέτοντας ένα μωσαϊκό από φρέσκους ήχους και τολμηρές προτάσεις.
Ωστόσο, η επιρροή της queer κουλτούρας δεν περιορίζεται μόνο στο πεντάγραμμο. Στην τηλεοπτική αρένα, η μίνι σειρά «Heated Rivalry» του HBO Max, η οποία συζητήθηκε έντονα καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια του περασμένου έτους, απέσπασε την υποψηφιότητα για την Εξαιρετική Νέα Τηλεοπτική Σειρά. Το «Heated Rivalry» κατάφερε να αποτυπώσει με ωμότητα και ευαισθησία τις προκλήσεις των σύγχρονων σχέσεων, κερδίζοντας την εμπιστοσύνη κοινού και κριτικών.
Πέρα από τις διαγωνιστικές κατηγορίες, η GLAAD επιλέγει κάθε χρόνο να τιμήσει έργα και προσωπικότητες που, αν και δεν εντάσσονται στις υπάρχουσες κατηγορίες, άσκησαν σημαντική επίδραση στην κοινωνική αποδοχή.
Φέτος, η Ειδική Αναγνώριση (Special Recognition) απονέμεται σε τέσσερα ξεχωριστά projects: στον Andry José Hernández Romero, στην ταινία «Before We Forget» της Twenty Nine Palms Ent., στη συναυλιακή εκτέλεση του «The Drowsy Chaperone in Concert» από το Breaking the Binary Theatre και στην ψηφιακή εκπομπή «Gaydar With Anania».
Η Sarah Kate Ellis, πρόεδρος και CEO της GLAAD, η οποία εκτελεί και χρέη εκτελεστικής παραγωγού στην τελετή, σημείωσε πως οι φετινοί υποψήφιοι αντικατοπτρίζουν έργα που κυκλοφόρησαν ή μεταδόθηκαν μεταξύ 1ης Ιανουαρίου και 31ης Δεκεμβρίου 2025. Μαζί με τους Rich Ferraro, Anthony Allen Ramos και τον παραγωγό Jose Useche, υπόσχονται μία βραδιά που θα ξεπεράσει τα στενά όρια μιας απονομής βραβείων, μετατρέποντάς την σε μία παγκόσμια γιορτή της διαφορετικότητας.
